The Ultimate Berlin Experience

I would like to invite you to come and explore Berlin, the city I like to call the “Capital of the Twentieth Century.” Explore the city’s rich and dramatic past—from Prussian kings and German emperors to Hitler’s Third Reich and the Cold War divide. Berlin’s history is as turbulent and tragic as it is fascinating, and it’s waiting to be uncovered.

I first came to Berlin in 2015 and was immediately captivated, not just by the city’s energy, but by the tangible ghosts of its past permeating every street and corner. Now a professional tour guide, I like to bring those ghosts of history to life, helping visitors connect with the remarkable stories that have shaped Berlin.

I will make sure your trip to Berlin is unforgettable!

Frequently Asked Questions

General Tour Info

The Ministry offers a variety of tours, from shorter tours like The Jewish Quarter Tour (1.5 hours) to The Full City Tour (6 hours). Some tours (like Highlights and Full City) are more general, giving you an overview of the city. Other tours are thematic (e.g. Nazi Germany, Cold War) and focus on particular eras of Berlin’s history.
We also offer customised “Build your own” tours.!

For the moment, all Ministry tours are private. So, the only people in your group… will be your group!

Please note, the maximum size for a single group is 30 people.

Ministry of History tours are primarily in English. However, if you would rather have your tour in another language, please let us know. But please be aware that this will most likely not be with Artie, the Minister. He will use his extensive network of professional Berlin tour guides to find a guide who will give you a tour that is up to Ministry standards.
Our guide, Artie, is a Berlin-based historian and tour guide with a passion for bringing the tumultuous history of this wonderful city to life. With a background in historical research and a history podcast, and specialising in modern German and Russian history, Artie provides not only a tour but an engaging story-driven experience. His aim is to make you as excited for the history of this fascinating city as he is passionate.
When you request a “Build your own” tour, we will collaborate to create a customised itinerary that caters to your specific interests, whether it’s Berlin’s Jewish history, Cold War stories, or hidden gems off the beaten path. Please use the contact form on the Tours page to get in touch and explain what you would like to do.
Ministry tours are family-friendly, though some historical topics may not be suitable for younger children. We recommend discussing the options with us to find the best tour for your family.

Booking and Payments

To book a standard tour, simply click “Enquire” on your chosen tour’s page. You’ll then be prompted to provide your email, date range, time range (if possible) and any additional information, such as hotel pickup requests (where available) or special accommodations (e.g., motorised tour or reduced mobility needs).

We will then be in touch to organise the tour. If your selected time is unavailable, we will suggest an alternative time.

Once the tour is organised we will send you an invoice for the tour, which must be paid by bank transfer within two weeks of issue. Bank details will be on the invoice.
For customised tours, please reach out via our contact form, and we’ll respond to your request by email as well.

Invoices are typically issued in EURO (€). However, if you’d prefer to pay in your local currency, just let us know—this can be arranged for most major currencies. The invoice amount will then reflect the current market exchange rate at the time of payment.
Cancellations made at least 48 hours in advance will be refunded. Cancellations made within 48 hours will not be refunded. Please inform us either by email or over the phone.
Tips are not included but are always appreciated for a job well done!

Tour Logistics

Comfortable walking shoes (no flip-flops please!) and weather-appropriate clothing – Berlin winters can be extremely cold and summers can be very hot. On hot days, a bottle of water is strongly recommended.

Most of our tours involve a fair amount of walking. Obviously, longer tours are likely to involve more walking. If you would rather do a motorised tour, please give us ample notice to organise this for you. This will entail extra costs which will be invoiced to you.

If you have any mobility issues or a disability that may affect walking or pacing, please contact us directly to arrange a customised tour. This way, we can tailor the experience to ensure you enjoy everything at a comfortable pace.

After booking, you’ll receive an email with detailed instructions on meeting points, the tour route and transport options. Hotel pickups are available for tours over 3 hours long.

For shorter tours (2 hours or less), there is no break. For tours of 2-4 hours, there is a break of 20 minutes for a coffee and sit down. For tours of over 4 hours, there is a break of minimum 45 minutes to up to 1 hour for a coffee, snack or a meal (depending on the time of day the tour takes place).

Please note, break time is included in the tour duration

Whether you’ll need travel tickets depends on the type of tour you book. Details about any required travel tickets are available on each tour’s individual page. For hotel pickups, a travel ticket may be needed to get to the starting point of a tour, unless you prefer a taxi. These can be arranged on the day, but organising in advance will save time.

Please note that any required tickets or taxi fares are not included in the tour price and will be at your expense.

Hotel pickups are available for tours of 3 hours or longer. For expediency, tours of less than 3 hours (e.g. Highlights and Jewish Quarter Tours), hotel pickups are not available and there are set meeting points.

Please note that the specified tour duration is the amount of time your guide is booked. This means that any time spent on hotel pickups will count toward the total tour time.

Delays happen. If you are running late for whatever reason, please call or text us as soon as you possibly can. Depending on the guide’s schedule and the notice given, we may be able to reschedule your tour to ensure you enjoy the full experience without a shortened duration.
