Would you like to explore Berlin’s historic Jewish quarter? Before the Second World War, Berlin was home to Germany’s largest Jewish community, a vibrant population of 160,000. The Nazi era and the Holocaust tragically decimated this community, and it wasn’t until after reunification in the 1990s that Berlin’s Jewish population began to recover. Today, the Jewish community numbers around 30,000—only a fraction of its former size—with an estimated one-third to a half of these being Israelis.
On this tour, you’ll discover the former Scheunenviertel (Barn Quarter), once the heart of Jewish life in Berlin. While some cultural and religious landmarks remain, others were lost to time. In this tour, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the lasting impression the Jewish community has left on Berlin, exploring the history and resilience of a people who helped shape the city’s identity.
To keep the tour concise, hotel pickups are not available for this tour. Please meet at the Starbucks at Hackescher Markt.
